Science, Geography and History
From FreeICT
SCIENCE:
Have a look at the Simulations page, and also:
A fantastic website with something for all units is BBC Science Clips.
For teaching electricity, try the simulation software Crocodile Clips Elementary.
BBC Space has information about, believe it or not, space, and the BBC also has Big Al Game, which is great for exploring habitats and food webs.
You will find links to many great Science sites at Kent, Coxhoe and Oxfordshire.
Here is a document listing ideas for usingdata logging in Science.
Virtual Quarry great for studying rocks.
GEOGRAPHY:
For mapping, the ultimate is Infomapper, which all South West Grid schools can register with for free. It is superb for looking at and comparing different types of maps and for linking work and pictures to maps.
For looking around at the world, viewing and travelling among aerial photographs, download Google Earth.
For a search for a place in the UK, comparing an aerial photograph with a map, you can use Multimap.
Children's Atlas is more stylised, and gives facts about places around the world.
Cool Planet gives activities for interactive whiteboards on mapping, projections etc.
BBC Weather gives weather information for places around the world.
BBC Schools has a good range of Geography sites, including Barnaby Bear.
Plenty more Geography sites are linked to from Kent, Oxfordshire and Coxhoe.
HISTORY:
BBC Schools is a good place to start, but the BBC also has the excellent Interactive section, with games, simulations and videos.
Children can explore the British Museum with Children's Compass.
There are several really good mini History sites at Snaith Primary School.
And, once again, for more sites try Oxfordshire, Coxhoe and Kent.
BBC Schools Audio Library has sound clips from the Second World War.
Also for Science, Geography and History, try the Data handling page on this site, for data files relating to Swindon in 1901, world rivers, planets and weather in Britain.
WEBQUESTS:
A range of webquests can be searched for at webquest.org.
Good ones I have found include Amazing Space, Extreme Ostrich Makeover and Circle of Life.
